The idea behind Fin Free Soup is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. Our logo displayed in a restaurant indicates that the restaurant does not serve shark fin soup and, therefore, does not contribute to the shark fin trade.

Shark fin soup is not illegal in Australia, in fact, there are currently hundreds of restaurants that serve the dish.

Australia continues to import and export shark fins which contributes to the demand for shark fin soup.

Shark finning is a process whereby the sharks’ fins are removed and their bodies are dumped back into the water, often while the animal is still alive. This results in the shark’s imminent death. A practice that still exists today because of the high demand for shark fin soup.

It is estimated that 100 million sharks are killed every year and that 73 million are killed for their fins alone.

Fin Free Soup was the basis for Amanda’s short documentary ‘Shark Soup’ which aired on Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.
